The Chapman Center was founded to preserve and share rural Kansas’s cultural history, and the projects on Lost Kansas Communities embody this goal using student-led research. Curated by theme, these exhibits highlight different aspects of rural Kansas history and its people.  

• Exploring Kansas by Rail looks at how the fates of many Kansas towns were tied to the railroads.  

• Kansas History and Life highlights overlooked aspects of Kansas daily life.

• Multicultural Kansas explores the rich history of migration to Kansas by many different ethnic and cultural groups. 

• Multimedia Projects highlight lost Kansas communities using alternative forms of media such as video, photography, and audio.

• Kansas Schoolhouse Exhibit highlights the fate of many small Kansas schoolhouses. 

• The Secret Life of Small Kansas Towns takes a journalistic approach to uncovering the hidden histories of Kansas.
